Overview
The Split Expense feature allows you to divide a single expense into multiple expense lines. This is useful when an expense needs to be allocated across different categories, cost centers, projects, or when part of the expense should be marked as personal and another part as business.
Each split expense can be managed independently, giving you greater flexibility when categorizing and reporting expenses.
Who This Is For
This feature is intended for employees who need to:
- Separate business and personal expenses
- Allocate expenses across multiple cost centers
- Assign different categories to portions of the same expense
- Split a transaction across multiple projects or budgets
How to Split an Expense
Step 1: Locate the Expense
Navigate to Activity > Expenses and locate the expense you would like to split.
Select the green hover menu (⋮) and choose Split.
Step 2: Select the Number of Splits
Enter the number of parts you would like to divide the expense into.
In this example, a $5.00 expense is being divided into two separate expenses.
Step 3: Enter the Split Amounts
Enter the amount for each split.
You can divide the expense equally (for example, $2.50 / $2.50) or enter custom amounts.
Important: The combined split amounts must equal the original transaction amount.
Select Split when you're finished.
Step 4: Review the Split Expenses
After the split is complete, you'll see the original transaction along with the newly created split expense lines.
Each split expense can now be managed independently and can be:
- Assigned to a different category
- Allocated to a different cost center
- Edited individually if additional changes are required
Key Notes
- Split amounts must always equal the original transaction amount.
- Each split expense becomes a separate expense line.
- Split expenses can be edited individually after they are created.
