You may sometimes need to split one expense into multiple parts — for example, when part of the expense should be categorized as business and another part as personal, or when different cost centers should be charged separately.
Here is an example of a $5.00 expense at McDonald’s being split into two equal parts:
Step 1
Navigate to Activity > Expenses and locate the expense you would like to split.
Use the green hover menu (⋮) and select “Split”.
Step 2
In the split window, enter the number of parts you want to divide the transaction into.
In this example, we are splitting the $5.00 transaction into 2 parts.
Step 3
Enter the amount for each split part. You may enter equal amounts (e.g., $2.50 / $2.50) or customize them as needed. The split must add up to the original total of $5.00.
Click Split when finished.
Step 4
Once completed, you will see the original transaction line along with the new split expense lines.
Each split line can now be:
Assigned to a different category
Allocated to another cost center
Edited individually if further adjustments are required
✅ That’s it! Splitting expenses helps ensure accurate reporting and allocation across your budgets.
